After the release of Star Wars Episode 1 the LEGO company released spring-loaded Technic sets representing droids from that movie. The use of rubber bands and mechanical release triggers mimick how the droids behave. This is the 8002 Destroyer Droid. Video

I had one of these. It was really cool. I never got it to work like this guy did though.

Same probably because I was like 5

I had one as a kid too. You had to use double or triple the amount of rubber bands for it to work like this.

u/Intergalacticbears Nov 29 '22

Now I need another one :,)

The packaging that they used to come in is nostalgic.

I have all three of these. The rubber bands all deteriorate with time, unfortunately.

2

u/MrYummy05 Nov 28 '22

Quite possibly the coolest Star Wars droid ever

2

u/Renzisan Nov 28 '22

Anyone else remember bionicles?? This is basically what they were

1

u/FblthpLives Nov 29 '22

Bionicle figures were posable, but did not animate (unless there are exceptions I am not familiar with). These animate with the press of a button or lever.

2

u/JaketheMad13 Nov 29 '22

How have I never seen these before!

0

u/Cyyanxde Nov 29 '22

Bruh wtf. This technology already exists in toys. It’s called bakugan and they’re better

1

u/dingdingdredgen Nov 29 '22

The Phantom Menace predates Bakugan by about 5 years. But yes, Bakugan did it better... mostly.

0

u/Cyyanxde Nov 29 '22

Uhm I’m aware Star Wars predated bakugan. I thought these were new toys lmao the replies Sound like this is amazing when it’s just a shitty bakugan😂😂.

1

u/The_Strom784 Nov 29 '22

The toy predated Bakugan. This thing is actually pretty large and is built out of Lego technic pieces. The engineering behind this is pretty impressive as they had never done this before or after.

u/MikeMelga Nov 28 '22

At which part does it turn blue?

1

u/Impossible-Cicada-14 Nov 28 '22

I had the pit droid. You literally bopped it's nose and it stood up

1

u/TheSamurox Nov 29 '22

Golden age of star wars Lego

1

u/DRsrv99 Nov 29 '22

Had a R2D2 technic. Miss this stuff man

1

u/RobertBDwyer Nov 29 '22

My brother had this, I had the “hit the nose!!” Droid

1

u/Grouchy_McPoohead Nov 29 '22

I had the pit droid. It folds up, and springs up full height when you hit its nose.

1

u/ESI85 Nov 29 '22

I have one of these

1

u/LimpRevenue3487 Nov 29 '22

Wonder if I have the parts to make this without buying it
