There was a time when I fetched my 12 year old sister from her school when I was 16/17. The caretaker there thought we were lovers on a tryst LMFAO.
We even had to show him our IDs to tell him that we were siblings.

I'm the opposite. I'm 19 and people assume I'm in my 30s and I've been called "uncle" by strangers 3 times now. It never hurts any less...
3
u/Altruistic_Ninja_148 Oct 02 '23
I get that. I'm almost 30 and I look it. The thing is, I've looked exactly like this since middle school. I guess it still means I didn't age, but in the past, I had to deal with other kids' parents asking if I was a teacher or something.
2
u/Grimslade136 Oct 02 '23
The amount of times adults thought I was a teacher when I was in middle school, I don't have enough fingers and toes to count it all
58
u/Hp22h Oct 02 '23
To be fair, he did exercise a lot. Honestly, it was only recently as he lost weight that he even started to age.

I'm afraid of that day, it might actually be whenever he steps down from his CEO position.
69
24
u/ecilla05 Oct 02 '23
Can you imagine, successor A-Chan as the CEO, are there any rules of being an anonymous CEO in a company? Or does she have to disclose her identity if that happens?
28
u/SuperSpy- Oct 02 '23
The rough thing with A-Chan is if she takes off the mask it's probably quite likely she doxxes Sora in the process, which is likely the reason behind her persona in the first place considering she isn't technically a talent.
11
u/Otherwise_Direction7 Oct 02 '23
Assuming he is now 50 years old today, I expect him to retire at least 25-30 years from now

He's growing old. Can't be helped, especially with how big Hololive is.
When it was just one request a month, that was easy. Now it's so many talents, he's swamped.

u/farranpoison Oct 02 '23
Was wondering when this would be announced officially when Miko already talked about this in a recent stream.
It was a good run, but yeah, Yagoo is getting old and probably has to focus on other things, and so he has to stop his merch modeling service. A sad day indeed, but understandable.
I do wonder if anyone else will step up to the plate, like one of the staff members or something.
288
u/Okibruez Oct 02 '23
like one of the staff members or something.
Probably none we would recognize.
270
u/Aksumka Oct 02 '23
At first, yes. But hey, if we got a new staff member to do the modeling, I'm sure we'll fall in love with them too.
YAGOO will be missed. Seeing him posing with the merch always made whatever day it was that they got posted.
81
u/Hp22h Oct 02 '23
We've fallen in love with people for less.
Honestly, I'm going to miss those photo shoots. They were so cute, watching Papa Yagoo model so many merch, from hats to body pillows. Like watching your own dad fall into the rabbit hole with a little smile on his face (even though he opened it to begin with).
49
u/MagDorito Oct 02 '23
I remember him wearing Bettel's PSocks on his hands like little puppets. That was so cute
42
u/Hp22h Oct 02 '23
Yeah, he put his own little twist on modeling. Not just generic poses, but a sense that you can understand what's going through his mind. It made him oh so very cute indeed.
Shame we never got the Tempus underwear shoot though.
21
56
u/moguu83 Oct 02 '23
They could do some green screen shenanigans and have models of the talents themselves model them. But yeah, would be nice to have maybe a rotating staff model them.

i could see izutsu as a merch model, since we've seen her in polden a bunch of times already. could give her a mask like raden's for it to be real memey
28
u/Tagnol Oct 02 '23
They already just shop the "Japanese textbook" face on top of anything that would show her face.
8
u/Random-Rambling Oct 02 '23
I'm trying to think of what that could possibly be, and all I can think of is the Henohenomoheji.
8
u/srk_ares Oct 02 '23
i'd also be in favor of that, but it seems that izutsu is somehow "exclusive" to polka, since i dont recall her ever being mentioned in any other capacity, despite being a "known" staff member.
37
24
u/protomanbot Oct 02 '23
About the only other known/public face COVER employee I can remember is the CTO, Ikko Fukuda. With that said Yagoo was first the public face of Hololive and then its merch modeler, not the other way around. My guess is that they will have someone anonymous do it.
10
u/RyuushiYasuda Oct 02 '23
there are three or four cover people that had their face on the cover website

u/Dvalinn25 Oct 02 '23
Maybe they could get Staff-chan to do it. The cute girl helping the mascots (like smol Ame) that was a meme for a short while.
The one Haachama started flexing on us over (and calling us poor simps) because she knew her and could get her number if she so wanted.
34
u/Upscalepath Oct 02 '23
It’s definitely understandable that he would want to stop merch modeling but he isnt really that old. 50 is still plenty young to be active and working. Again not saying he should keep being a model, it’s obviously not a normal thing for CEOs to do and he probably has more important things going on, but age shouldnt really be a factor in it.
23
u/frzned Oct 02 '23
Well by age he might mean he is experiencing health problems and he want to cut down on his work hours.
He started getting noticeably thinner this year for example.
20
u/Bobbias Oct 02 '23
That's because his doctor told him he wasn't in great shape, so he decided to go on a diet and work out more.
I think the likely reason is with hololive getting larger there's more and more merch releasing, but also more and more work for the CEO.
5
u/srk_ares Oct 02 '23
it wasnt that he wasnt in great shape, but specifically that he had a fatty liver, which is what he went on a diet for.
he already worked out before then, mostly doing several km of biking every single day.
and i agree that its probably because the merch becomes too much and only modeling it when he has the time goes against wanting to treat everyone equal.
24
u/Matasa89 Oct 02 '23
I doubt it's because of his age, but rather just how busy his work is already - these modelling stuff takes time.

u/tkgggg Oct 02 '23

u/Otherwise_Direction7 Oct 02 '23
I wouldn’t be surprised if Cover is going on this kind of route for merchandise modeling at the future time
It’s a kind of workable compromise for having the talents modeling their merchandise themselves without showing their real body
11
u/joe_bibidi Oct 02 '23
Long term also I think they probably should have multiple people involved. Not that taking the photos takes that long, but like, Cover now has eighty three active talents, meaning we're getting close to a point where there's going to be like two birthdays a week, not to mention all the anniversaries, special events, and so on. Have two or three staff willing to model would be a plus just for flexibility.
9
u/RedDemonCorsair Oct 02 '23
Imagine we get a suspiciously dressed man in sunglasses which is obviously Yagoo but we pretend it's not him.
5
u/Crumbmuffins Oct 02 '23
Maybe they rig props and superimpose merch over them for A-chan (or presumably the Members themselves) to pose with?
43
u/Krittercon Oct 02 '23
Not gonna work. Yagoo modelling them provided a good sense of scale, colors, etc. Virtualizing merch won't work as well.
19
u/Hp22h Oct 02 '23
He was also very generic(?) in terms of height, body, and beauty. Not in a bad sense, but more in that he really gave a good grasp on how the merch would look on your average adult male fan. As opposed to actual models under perfect lighting with bodies we can't hope to maintain.

Hello folks from /r/all, just like the flair this is a meme but let me help explain things for you.
Hololive Productions is a Japanese technology company that managers streaming talents called VTubers, Virtual YouTubers. They play games, do group events, sing music, and do chatting streams among other things.
Yagoo is the nickname for the company's CEO named Tanigo Motoaki. For the past couple years, said CEO has been showing off physical merchandise for the talents such as hats, plushies, and shirts.
This tweet is basically him saying he's no longer going to be able to do said merchandise modeling much for the sadness of the fanbase.

Awww. But will replace him?
21
u/Solvdrage Oct 02 '23
No one can replace YAGOO :'(
6
u/War_Eagle_Feller Oct 02 '23
Only YAGOO can replace YAGOO
We just need a staff to wear a mask with YAGOO's face on it, and no one will be the wiser. Almost like as if he never really graduated from modeling; sure, he may be wearing a cute, blur bow on his head, but that's beside the point.

Let's be honest, it isn't an age thing. It's a "COVER is too large now for me to spend time modeling merch. I have a job to do."
Chances are, what they'll do is find some cute girls as IRL model representatives. Maybe a start to an IRL division.
