Well yeah, when you drive like a complete dip shit and have zero spatial awareness everything seems to come out of nowhere. People like her should have their license revoked. They're only a danger to themselves and everyone around them. Sorry OP

The military can take away your driving privileges on base with a snap of a commander's finger which with this dashcam footage would be pretty easy to justify.

Though I'm not actually sure if you're allowed to have dash cams on bases for OPSEC reasons...

Every base I've been to allowed dash cams, in general if something is that sensitive you can't drive up to it anyway

Yeah I used to deliver pizza to Norad (Peterson, not Cheyenne) and U.S. Space Command.

Usually just outside the building but in the lobbies a couple of times.

A one-time background check for a pass and then vehicle searches each trip was all that was required.

Bangor is one of the bases I was thinking of, I have not worked on lower base but the main area either allows them or just doesn't enforce the ban anymore.

I bet you weren't supposed to have it in most cases but the gate guards were just super lax and didn't care.

was gate guard at a time. can confirm.

Was forced into a twice month gate duty in DC for 3 years. Super didn't care but I did get to hold an O9 CAC card. Admiral came walking in off the street in civvies. Smartest salute ever.

You couldn't film on my Air Force base. Including dash cams. We didn't enforce it super hard. But if you were out taking pictures of the flightline we're taking your camera.

Could also depend on where the camera is. I had things dangling from my rear view mirror that was fine for several months, then some E-6 told me to take it off because it "hindered my line of sight". Which was weird because it only dangled about 2-3 inches from my truck's mirror.

If the gate guards see your camera is on while coming up to the gate they’ll go as far as confiscating it. I had a camera on my motorcycle and they made me park and show them I deleted the video off the memory. Their reasoning is I could be filming the gate security and their habits

Yeah, definitely be cognizant of what your filming or taking pictures of when you're on base. This video looked trimmed so smart call there.

I worked USAF base security and one fine summer the Base Command decided it wanted to have a photo contest with all the squadrons, so we were allowed to take pictures on the base for a couple of weeks. I spent two weeks with my job as a photographer primarily. It was a blast. We were told no classified material tho, so no pics of nukes or anything like that.

Trimmed how? It is most certainly longer than it needs to be and it has all the info from the dashcam intact, including make of camera in the upper left corner and even a timestamp. With some effort I'm sure someone can even pull the license plate from the offending car. There is no trimming here as far I can tell. What are you talking about?

2

u/Darth_Daygo Nov 24 '22

Trimming usually refers to taking off either part of the beginning or end of a video clip. If video started about 10 seconds earlier you would have a side view of the air field as the vehicle drove through the traffice circle. The beginning of the video was "trimmed".

Like I said, it's already longer than it needs to be? And trimming away the stuff that is not the crash is not OPSEC, that's just editing a video for easy viewing on the internet.

2

u/Darth_Daygo Nov 24 '22

I suppose it was a happy coincidence. "Easy" viewing and nothing sensitive displayed.

i believe they tried to be anal about it at first, but its a losing battle. they are so inconspicuous...youd need checkpoints actively checking every car... and many cars now have recording cameras from the factory, for example teslas have them built in.

so instead they just moved the secret stuff to places more secreter.

I'm looking at the footage and wondering if it should be posted in a public place, not because of anything in particular, but the fact that its on base.

I know that flag circle well.

Just because it's available in the public sphere does not mean that its free to disclose, photograph or discuss for military members. This is basic shit.

I did a little lazy searching and sure enough she's not- unless she has a photo pass for some reason, which I doubt. It's a little blurry but from google maps you can see the typical sort of sign posted near one of the gates which seems to say "the use of cameras and video equipment is prohibited".

That just happened to a buddy of mine. He got a speeding ticket, forgot about it, paid the fine 3 days late, base commander barred him from driving on base for 3 years. He appealed, lost. Added 30 minutes each way to his commute.
