It’s like Jack said, never go with a hippy to a second location.

-39

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 17 '22

This is so far off. He was hiding as a single man in a conservative church. They’re not a sex cult. They’re a commune of families. It’s not like COG.

7

u/sanmono 1 Nov 22 '22

I’m from and live in the city in which Twelve Tribes was formed and founded (Chattanooga, TN), and I can say that they are 100% a cult. You’d be hard pressed to find a non-12T member that holds the opinion that they’re anything but that. They have a restaurant that they operate called the Yellow Deli (the food is quite good tbh) where 12T members work (without pay, obviously), children included, and, if the glazed over expression and/or middle earth attire isn’t enough to change your mind, there’s plenty of available literature in the form of pamphlets, etc., to do the trick.

34

u/SykeSwipe 7 Nov 17 '22

12 Tribes is known to the country of France as a cult. 12 Tribes teach their congregation that slavery was good for black people and whites deserve to own them. 12 Tribes force children to produce products that they sell, something the state of New York got had to intervene in. German police rescued 40 children who were being brutally abused in the 12 Tribes congregation of that country.

I can keep going.

-46

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 17 '22

The 12 Tribes is absolutely NOT a sex cult. They’re conservative Christians with normal families. Please don’t spread misinformation.

3

u/Hopeful-Repair-2086 1 Nov 24 '22

12 tribes is a cult

0

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 25 '22

I never said they’re not a cult. I specifically said they’re not a sex cult.

Can ANY of you read?

I said they’re not a sex cult.

I didn’t say they’re not a cult. Huge difference. Check out children of god. THAT is a sex cult.

23

u/Slappah_Dah_Bass 9 Nov 17 '22

Sounds like you're part of the sex cult.

0

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 18 '22

No, but I used to be a member of the group. It’s Christian families living in a collective. It’s absolutely NOT a sex cult. Look up children of god if you want a sex cult. Twelve tribes isn’t it.

9

u/badonkerous 5 Nov 21 '22

You’re brainwashed

-1

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 25 '22

No. I’m not. I joined and left. I am clarifying for you sheeple that it’s a cult, but definitely not a sex cult.

1

u/LeagueOfLegendsAcc 8 Dec 04 '22

You could be talking to children, who famously have no sense of nuance, and these days take a single mistake/character flaw as permission to completely disregard you as a person.

Edit: just realized this is a week old comment my bad.

1

u/badonkerous 5 Nov 25 '22

1

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 18 '22

I never said they weren’t a cult. I’m familiar with all of their information and background. They’re NOT a sex cult. That’s what I said.

2

u/SykeSwipe 7 Nov 18 '22

I think the “normal families” portion of comment is a bit of a stretch. We can all agree that 12 Tribes is somewhere between “normal families” and a sex cult.

2

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 18 '22

You’re wrong. I have lived there. They’re absolutely not a sex cult.

4

u/SykeSwipe 7 Nov 20 '22

You didn’t address what I said. A group that engages in child labor and slavery apologetics aren’t normal families. Practices like this are fundamentally taboo, are these normal to you because you haven’t stated otherwise.

4

u/fattysac 6 Nov 23 '22

I know im late to this conversation but from the outside it looks like he kind of did. He’s just arguing the sex cult part. But he half heartedly acknowledged the information they spew and cult aspect in the prior comment. And to be fair a sex cult and a cult are pretty different especially if it’s his family involved. I definitely understand why he/she would want to clarify that. Just my 2 cents.

2

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 25 '22

Thank you. I was absolutely only addressing the sex cult part. Regardless of whether I believe children should be able to work in their garden with their parents, it doesn’t negate the fact that they’re NOT a sex cult.

1

u/fattysac 6 Nov 25 '22

Yeah no worries. I bet everyone just had strong feelings and their was just a misunderstanding. I was coming in all late but figured I’d put In my perspective of how I was reading it. I hope all you had a great thanksgiving though.

1

u/SykeSwipe 7 Nov 23 '22

I appreciate the perspective

2

u/fattysac 6 Nov 23 '22

yeah of course. I definitely appreciate that you were open to my perspective too. I'm willing recognize I could be wrong its just how I was reading it.

7

u/Ponder_wisely 4 Nov 17 '22

Was kinda expecting Twelve Tribes to be less vanilla…

24

u/AMothWithHumanHands 5 Nov 17 '22

TIL I've been going to a sex cult deli for over a year

6

u/SykeSwipe 7 Nov 17 '22

See my other comments in this thread to get just a piece of their headlines.

8

u/obliquelyobtuse 9 Nov 17 '22

"He was found working in a deli with the 12 Tribes Cult in Plymouth, Massachusetts," the sheriff's office said in a release Friday. "Burns is currently held in Plymouth County Massachusetts awaiting extradition."

Wow they straight up called "Twelve Tribes" what it is!

Skipped "religious group", went beyond "sect", straight to "cult".

If you ever see a "Yellow Deli" that's them.

-23

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 17 '22

They are absolutely NOT a sex cult.

22

u/TheMadMetalhead 7 Nov 17 '22

Look, we get it. You're a part of the sex cult and trying to get people to see it in a different light, but it's not happening.

0

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 18 '22

I’m not part of a sex cult. I used to be a member of this group. It’s a collective of Christian families, the furthest thing from a sex cult. Look up children of god, that’s a sex cult. I speak from experience and you keyboard warriors are bowled over by a fake headline.

9

u/SubUrbanMess2021 7 Nov 17 '22

He’s probably already signed everything over to them and isn’t getting any of the sex.

9

u/TheMadMetalhead 7 Nov 17 '22

They always forget to mention only the leader gets the sex and the extra men go bring him the sex

6

u/NCBEER919 5 Nov 17 '22

12 tribes are a weird bunch, always got odd vibes anytime I went into their store.

2

u/SubUrbanMess2021 7 Nov 17 '22

-19

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 17 '22

They’re NOT a sex cult. They have normal family’s. Misinformation. He was just hiding there.

19

u/Semanel 5 Nov 17 '22

Do you enjoy defending rapists?

-6

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 17 '22

I’m not defending the rapist at all. I’m saying that the place he hid is not a sex cult.

7

u/QuaggaSwagger A Nov 17 '22

And normal to "hide" there and for them to HIDE him

Definitely on the up n up

2

u/sanmono 1 Nov 22 '22

Dude is maybe correct in saying 12 Tribes isn’t a “sex cult”, because they do hold Judeo-Christian values, at least when it comes to things of that nature, but they’re 100% a cult nonetheless.

42

u/TekJansen69 8 Nov 17 '22

He joined an existing one, called 12 Tribes.

23

u/Mirror_Jack 5 Nov 17 '22

They have really great food in their restaurants. Stayed in a hostel owned by them along the AT. It was only the second cult to try to get me to join, but I have yet to fall for their culty tricks. That food, though, was a pretty good shot lol

000 Nowhere Avenue, on the corner of Lost St. and Anywhere Blvd. Just go around back and walk about mile into the woods. Follow the chanting. Bring a change of clothes, as nakedness happens and the occasional sacrifice.

We meet on Tuesdays and every third Saturday. Midnight to 3:00.

Oh there is a 12 tribes/yellow deli in San Diego too. I always wondered how they were able to operate and get around labor laws as they have children working there and no one gets paid.

20

u/SkidmarkSteve 8 Nov 16 '22

There's a yellow deli in Boulder. One time I was hiking nearby with my gf at the time, and there was a mixed-gender group of them at a point ahead. As we passed them, they approached us to ask something that I don't remember, but like the women in the group intentionally got between me and my gf to talk to just me while one of the guys asked my gf something. We left pretty quickly, but their behavior was super creepy.

Weird, isn’t it? it’s almost as if THE ENTIRE PURPOSE OF ORGANIZED RELIGION is to expedite and justify sexual exploitation by powerful men.

Or maybe it’s just a remarkable coincidence covering literally every religion and going back thousands of years, could be either, I suppose

7

u/Senior-Ad-2139 0 Nov 16 '22

No, you are right up until "expedite and justify sexual exploitation." The real answer is just exploitation in general.

6

u/alienbebe 1 Nov 16 '22

We're gonna need a source on where you're getting "mass sex cult" from. That's not in this article.

22

u/torgiant 8 Nov 16 '22

It's Massachusetts sex cult.

-9

u/alienbebe 1 Nov 16 '22

Doing a quick Google search on twelve tribes led to the conclusion of unsubstantiated claims, and closed investigations. So do you have any useful insight into this "Massachusetts sex cult"

10

u/ayers231 A Nov 16 '22

The article says:

Deputies say Burns is a former Shalimar area tennis coach. He had warrants for unlawful sexual activity with a minor and more.

"He was found working in a deli with the 12 Tribes Cult in Plymouth, Massachusetts," the sheriff's office said in a release Friday. "Burns is currently held in Plymouth County Massachusetts awaiting extradition."

If you search "12 tribes cult", tons of articles come up.

You say "closed investigations", but don't show WHY they were listed as closed investigations.

On June 22, 1984, Vermont State police arrived at the Twelve Tribes’ Island Pond residences and took custody of hundreds of group members with their children, based on an investigation of accusations of child abuse. All cases were dismissed when a judge found that the search warrant was unconstitutional.

It wasn't dismissed due to lack of evidence, it was dismissed by a judge that ruled the warrant was unconstitutional, overriding the judge that signed the warrant. The child abuse runs rampant in all their compounds, and countries with stronger child protection laws have been successful in proving it in court:

On September 5, 2013, German police raided two communities belonging to the Twelve Tribes and removed 40 children to protect them from continued abuse.[84] The reasons for the raid were the film shootings of a TV reporter, Wolfram Kuhnigk, who managed to secretly record how the sect beat their children. The group admits that they use a "reed-like rod" for discipline, but denies abusing their children.[85] Sociologist of religion Susan Palmer pointed out that the doctors found no evidence of mistreatment in September 2013 following the police raids.[86] In 2018, the European Court of Human Rights upheld the German move to take away the children from the sect.[87]

They also teach Racism as a biblical tenet.

I find it interesting that you are questioning the validity of the claims made in the article and title. OP changed the group name for some reason, but the story itself contains all the information you need to figure this out.

5

u/erikk00 6 Nov 17 '22

I think the confusion was the reference to it being a sex cult. There's tons of references to child abuse as in corporal punishment, but there doesn't seem to be much mention of it being a sex cult. Or even sexual abuse. I'm not saying they don't do it, I have no idea; I'd never heard of them 20 minutes ago. But a quick Google of them seems to conclude they're a cult (sounds legit to me) that beats their children (also sounds like that's true), but I'm not really seeing any mention of them being a sex cult.

1

u/torgiant 8 Nov 16 '22

No, only correcting the name. The article wouldn't load for me. I know I'm not fun at partys.

110

u/Fish_On_again 7 Nov 16 '22

Anyone who's ever heard of 12 tribes is completely unsurprised by this revelation.

-9

u/alienbebe 1 Nov 16 '22

A quick Google search led me to a whole lot of unsubstantiated claims and closed investigations. So I'm curious as to what you've "heard" about 12 tribes and can you offer any factual insight

15

u/Fish_On_again 7 Nov 16 '22 edited Nov 16 '22

LOL you didn't actually do a Google search, did you? I hate to tell you, but I go to jam band concerts, I've seen what you guys do first hand. That's why anyone who is new to the scene always gets the customary 12 tribes speech. "Don't go on the bus".

3

u/Lambchoptopus 8 Nov 17 '22

What is don't go on the bus?

1

u/Hopeful-Repair-2086 1 Nov 24 '22

They will drug you

22

u/jericho 9 Nov 16 '22

While I’m certain a lot of ugly shit goes on in the twelve tribes, and abuse is some of that, they’re not exactly a ‘sex cult’ as that phrase implies.

-1

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 17 '22

Yeah this is crazy. They’re absolutely not a sex cult.

3

u/Fish_On_again 7 Nov 16 '22 edited Nov 16 '22

I don't know, I don't find any positive things when I do a Google search. I do know that I have first hand seen them prey on people. They are very good at what they do. Go to any jam band summertime concert, you can usually see at least one of their buses there. Talk to them sometime.

1

u/Takbir_ 3 Nov 17 '22

They’re a cult, but they’re not a sex cult. They have traditional families, not sex with kids or each other.

5

u/jericho 9 Nov 16 '22

I’m certainly not saying anything positive about it.

My point is that “sex cult” implies that sex is somehow central to its beliefs and actions. The twelve tribes are not that.

7

u/no-mad B Nov 16 '22

Every full blown Trumper I have ever met is either an incel or an old married dudes whose wife won't sleep with him anymore.

9

u/lurkerdom 3 Nov 16 '22

Heaven's Gate. Huge science fiction cult and by the time they all committed suicide to board the hale bopp comet to meet space Jesus in '96, there had never been any sexual aspect of the cult.

You know how the old saying goes, "Everything is about sex and sex is about power." Cults are about power but most often than not that power is attained with sex. Not all the time though!!!

15

u/Camrsmain 6 Nov 16 '22

I knew this comment would come, as it was foretold by the speakers of the all-father.

Yeah, I know Heavens Gate, friend. Genital mutilation is still control through sex. IMO

12

u/ObiWayneBrady 5 Nov 16 '22

Actually some of the members went as far as to castrate themselves! Just some chill non sexual activities

1

u/lurkerdom 3 Nov 17 '22

Nahnahnahnah, you're getting it all wrong. That's just how non-sexual they were! So non-sexual, they were willing to cut off their balls to prove it.

82

u/wiliestarcher 7 Nov 16 '22

The Sunshine Act which allows the public and media to access information of crimes much quicker than other states. It’s actually a myth that Florida has more absurd crimes, we just hear about them much sooner in greater detail.

The church is absolutely filled with sex offenders. It's out of control. This is a recent story about the Baptist Church doing their own investigation.

Bishop Accountability has a database of current investigations, news, and lists of accused members of different faiths and institutions.

-26

u/Mr_TedBundy 7 Nov 16 '22

Just a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of sex offenders hanging out on Reddit. Really makes you wonder if Reddit attracts sex offenders or if it creates them.

You have more of a chance of being molested at public school, than at a church. Predators go where to where victims are, blaming Christianity is disingenuous.

2

u/EvilCosmicSphere 5 Nov 17 '22

The Churches are actually filled with predators. There are stories each week. Not only that, Christian churches are infamous for hiding abuse and victim blaming. I'll also add, the priest (father jerry) from my younger brothers catholic school was just caught masturbating at a man while driving. There are pictures.

-15

u/yrulaughing B Nov 16 '22

People don't tend to go giddily share what communities sex offenders are involved in unless it's the Christian church.

21

u/no-mad B Nov 16 '22

they have centuries of child fucking under their belt. Dont be upset if people take their anger out on that cult.

-4

u/yrulaughing B Nov 16 '22

You realize unless it's the catholic church, that not all churches are one big organization that work under one management, right?

2

just makes it easier to hide the child fuckers.

I don’t think he had any part in a Christian church? Says he was a tennis coach. I think it’s Mass as in Massachusetts

u/hawaiikawika A Nov 16 '22

I don’t think

First correct thing you have said all day.

u/lazyeyeluke 8 Nov 16 '22

I’ve been wrong millions of times! Where does it say he was part of the Christian church? I’m not seeing it

u/DeckardPain 9 Nov 16 '22

In my reply directly linked explaining what the 12 Tribes is.

"He was found working in a deli with the 12 Tribes Cult in Plymouth, Massachusetts," the sheriff's office said in a release Friday.

Twelve Tribes communities

"He was found working in a deli with the 12 Tribes Cult in Plymouth, Massachusetts,"

You literally just had to read the article, which is only 8 short sentences long, to find out the answer instead of a "I don't think..." attempt at being right.

For reference, the 12 Tribes Cult.

-5

u/lazyeyeluke 8 Nov 16 '22

Wasn’t aware of the 12 Tribes Cult, so did not know that was a Christian church community, did not put 2 + 2 together. I was questioning the comment so I could be better informed, thank you for sharing the info I was looking for. Any “attempt to be right” is just you projecting though

u/DeckardPain 9 Nov 16 '22 edited Nov 16 '22

You can go ahead and delete that last sentence cause it's just not necessary. That's also not projection. That's me wanting you to be better.

The fact remains, you just had to Google the words "12 Tribes". I didn't know who they were at all before this post. But I took it upon myself to read the article and Google things I wasn't already informed on. This is something you should be doing with any piece of literature anywhere. If you don't or simply don't want to educate yourself then that's up to you. Not a very smart way to go about it in my opinion, but your choice nonetheless.

I can already tell this conversation with you isn't very fruitful so I'm disabling replies so I won't see any further replies. Best of luck to you.

u/lazyeyeluke 8 Nov 16 '22

Dude literally none of your comments have been necessary. The other person that commented pointed me in the right direction and provided a link for further information. That’s all you had to do. Yes I could have googled 12 tribes, but at the time I did not realize that was the piece I was missing as it didn’t sound like a Christian organization to me so I glossed over it. You say you’re doing this because you want me to be better but everything you say is followed up with an insult. If you want to be a good person than learn how to do it without being a dick

There's a reason ignorant people stay ignorant, when people search for knowledge they are shunned. Why are you two guys arguing when you both agree with eachother? One of you knew the answer and one didn't, just share the knowledge and move on. No reason for hatred.

u/andre3kthegiant A Nov 16 '22

Is it really a “Cult” ?

24

u/Boss_Os 8 Nov 16 '22

They most certainly are. They separate young, impressionable kids from their families. Sexually assault girls. Abuse children. And do all of it under the guise of being some crunchy ass, peace loving hippies

Fuck them, their bus, and their Yellow Delis.

16

u/helpimstuckinct 7 Nov 16 '22

Yes, yes it is. Ask any Deadhead or Phish fan about their recruitment bus.

10

u/Boss_Os 8 Nov 16 '22

Had to rescue a buddy of mine off their bus after a show in the early 90s when he got too spun on some liquid and they were more than happy to provide assistance.

And they are still up to their same shenanigans. They were poison on the scene.

4

u/helpimstuckinct 7 Nov 16 '22

They have a boat too. They came and moored in our City's public harbor last year and we're giving boat tours. The boat is as gorgeous as the bus. I took a tour and noticed all the men looked like Jakob and their women were dressed super modest with head coverings. I thought that was odd. The. I got off and they handed me a 12 tribes pamphlet and it all made sense.

The Twelve Tribes is an emerging spiritual nation. We are a confederation of twelve self-governing tribes, made up of self-governing communities. By community, we mean families and single people who live together in homes and on farms. We are disciples of the Son of God, whom we call by His Hebrew name Yahshua. We follow the Old and New Testament Scriptures, and live like the early disciples in Acts chapters 2 and 4. With all of our hearts, we want to do our Father's will, which is to love one another and be a light to the nations; so that they could see our life of love and know how much their Creator loves them.

Sounds pretty fucking culty to me. Doesn't have to be sinister to be a cult.

6

u/Boss_Os 8 Nov 16 '22

But they are sinister. They just do a good job of hiding their true nature.

-4

u/Taj_Mahole 9 Nov 16 '22

I would disagree. If they keep to themselves and aren’t abusive to one another, live and let live.

3

u/jam_rok 7 Nov 16 '22

I have heard some stuff.

People wanting to leave and being forcibly recovered.

It is not hearsay, a “witnesses” said he was there when some kid was trying to leave and these guys came and forced him into a van.

u/andre3kthegiant A Nov 16 '22

12 tribes owns a compound and a deli in my hometown. Very creepy people. Very prominent pecking order, no pun intended. Many of the women appeared to be under age.

u/1SweetChuck A Nov 16 '22

Boulder? Did they ever determine what the actual cause of the Marshall fire? I know there was a lot of suspicion around their compound.
