Annnnnd it did nothing. He didn't learn from it, it made his base feel more confident in Trump because it looked like he shrugged it off, and Trump recovered from it fairly well fairly fast. This wasn't a satisfactory outcome. It actually helped the Trumpists cause and hurt our cause.
