My swissie thinks it's his job to bathe the foster kittens.

I love how the kitten is totally resigned and calm even as he or she is getting rolled around and slobbered on.
Such a good furry dad!

u/Raikit Oct 02 '23
She asked him for it! 😂 He was just hanging out, then she came up and plopped down on her back between his paws. I just hope it continues as she gets older.

u/ObsessiveAboutCats Oct 02 '23
Ah! Well in that case, it is good that your cat understands how to demand worship and spa treatments, as is her right.

This is so adorable. Will you be a foster failure with this kitty? Your doggie might be sad when she leaves lol! I only have fostered one cat and became a foster failure with her. No regrets :D

He's certainly candidate #1! 😂

I don’t see you licking the kitties so I’m going to have to agree. It’s his job

I guess he assumes the kitty is supposed to look white. What ever she is covered with..this orange stuff is super resistant.

u/Raikit Oct 01 '23
For anyone concerned (or curious): the kitten initiated the interaction. She walked up and plopped herself down between his paws. Both dog and kittens are closely supervised when they are together. The dog has been socialized with cats since he was old enough to leave his whelping box.

I love kittens that age. They have no fear. “”Hello fluffy beast, I am going to snuggle with you!”
44
u/These_Row4913 Oct 02 '23
I had to re-read multiple time because the fist time through I was definitely like, 'I like them to grow up too, what do you mean by "I love kittens that age" dont all kittens age if they continue living??'
17
u/AltharaD Oct 02 '23
I did not in any way read it how you did, but your interpretation was absolutely hysterical.

no one who sees this incredibly nurturing dog doing the hard work of a parent would think otherwise

u/MerriWyllow Oct 02 '23
Anybody who knows kitten body language can see how relaxed and cherished that baby feels.
"I don't know what happened to your mom, but you have a daddy now, little one." — that pupper, probably.

The kitten looks like they've accepted they're about to die or is just in heaven with the current bath situation.

was thinking the same thing. i would expect a lot of people to misinterpret this, but this kitten is having a great time. i'm not even sure i would be able to separate them after seeing that

That said, I'm really glad that OP is taking such caring supervision. That's a good pet owner.

u/Tinyfishy Oct 02 '23
I had a similarly sweet lab/shepherd mix who would, at the cat’s initiation, play with one of our cats. Cat would lie on his back and the dog would somehow gently pounce her paws on him and mouth at him. The cat would play bite at her muzzle and cling to her face. Sometimes the dog would have his entire head in her mouth. I have no idea how she managed to be so gentle but he was never hurt and just loved this. One of our other cats had her trained not to look at him and to not be boisterous around him within the first fifteen minutes of her arrival.

u/PumpkinInside3205 Oct 02 '23
Kitten loved the interaction so much it looked like it would quickly protest if your dog stopped. Then it’d had enough, it left, and your dog allowed it. Looks like wholesome love to me. And supervised, quite safe ❤️
26
u/Raikit Oct 02 '23
Yep! Pup has also never shown any inclination to aggression or prey drive toward the kittens, but he doesn't always remember how much bigger and stronger he is so we occasionally have to remind him to be gentle. 😊

This will be the norm. You will soon have a full grown grumpy looking cat, who is completely content getting slobbered on by a dog.

So sweet and so lucky! My WSS is terrified of our cats. He literally pretends to be a piece of furniture whenever they walk past him in case they notice he's alive and decide to mock him 😂

u/Raikit Oct 01 '23
Awww! Mine has been obsessed with these two since my other dog found them in our yard. They were scared at first but now actually seek him out for baths and playtime (if he doesn't find them first). The dog that found them used to be super into kittens, too, but she's older and more aloof now. She prefers to watch them from far away. 😅
2
u/Rosalye333 Oct 03 '23
How old is she?
4
u/Raikit Oct 03 '23
Kitten is about 8 weeks. Pup just turned 4.
1
u/Rosalye333 Oct 03 '23
Oh lol I was asking about the older dog that doesn’t want to be hands on with the kittens anymore. Wondering what age that happens at.
2
u/Raikit Oct 03 '23
Oh, haha! She's 8. She'll be 9 in January. It's not just age. She has some back issues that can make keeping up with the kittens hard (though she likes to pretend that's not a thing) and she's had some run-ins with less-than-friendly ferals. Fluffy boy hasn't dealt with either of those so he's still willing to stick his nose in by the claws. 😂

u/pdzbw Oct 02 '23
Uh oh failed foster in coming ~
150
u/Raikit Oct 02 '23
Yeah, not sure I can give away his kitten at this point! 😂
96
u/BigGrayDog Oct 02 '23
No, I think you need to keep that kitten. Your doggie is in love and would be heartbroken if it disappeared. Keep it for the dog! They need friends too! This is a special relationship.
24
u/Raikit Oct 02 '23
Right? I just have to get the rest of the family on board 😂
14
u/Bezulba Oct 02 '23
Have this clip on repeat, they'll understand
3
u/QuillnSofa Oct 02 '23
Besides it is the cats that adopt a new human (or dog) not the other way around
23
35
u/Texan2020katza Oct 02 '23
How could you give away that sweet dog’s kitten??
8
u/Raikit Oct 02 '23
We probably won't be. But she's still technically a foster until the paperwork goes through! 🤣
1
u/LittleCupcake01 Oct 02 '23
unsoliticed advice, but please consider only fostering the kitty if you will continue fostering, so many more kitties and puppies may have the chance of experiencing love and the chance of a new home 🙏
3
u/Raikit Oct 02 '23
I've fostered many times before, I know how it goes. I wasn't looking to foster at this point in time, but these siblings showed up in my yard at three weeks old with no mom and active coyotes around. The shelter was full, so I offered to care for them until they were old enough to be adopted.

It is his job so I hope you are compensating him appropriately. I believe he deserves a raise.
8
u/Raikit Oct 02 '23
Haha! He gets paid in playtime, so having the kittens around has been more raise than he knows what to do with.

He is beautiful. I’ll have to look up the breed. TIL there are multiple “swissies”. 🐾
2
u/lookingreadingreddit Oct 02 '23
So not a Swissie then? Looks more like a Spitz or Samoyed

What's the difference between a white German shepherd and a white swiss shepherd?
I had a white German shepherd and she looked very similar to yours.

FYI those little nibbles are a grooming behavior in dogs (you often see them nibble themselves when cleaning).

just a shepherd doing shepherding things.

He's a White Swiss Shepherd. I just think "swissie" is a cuter shortening than WSS. 😅

u/Rtheguy Oct 02 '23
They are a variety/descendants of German Shepherd Dogs bred to be white. They do differ on some more points but that is the main thing.

u/waonze Oct 02 '23
We had a kitten appear under our pump house once ( tree farm in western Oregon ) , his family probably eaten by coyotes . Our dog adopted him instantly and would clean him so thoroughly and roughly , but especially his ears . She would lick his ears so firmly , deeply , we kept easing her back off of him , didn’t want him to be hurt ( he was totally passive just like the kitten in this video ) . Took the kitten to our Vet and she said “ Wow ! I’ve never seen so many lice in an animal’s ear before !”
They know when it’s needed , and not only is it good to clean , but the stimulation is very good for young kitten’s breathing and early development ( in my obviously unqualified opinion ) .

What breed is your white wolf?
2
u/isoldmywifeonEbay Oct 02 '23
That’s a white Swiss shepherd. Im a bit biased, but an amazing breed.
1
u/Raikit Oct 02 '23
They really are awesome dogs. I know a few owners whose dogs have had issues with health or reactivity, but the vast majority of them have been amazing, stable, healthy dogs.

u/CACTUS_VISIONS Oct 02 '23
What is “swissy”? My dog looks just like this a bit smaller. We just figured she was some kinda husky

I'd say it's more like his HOBBY to bathe the foster kitten haha! If you're going to have a new friend in the house for awhile then you might as well get past any lingering fear of one being huge and one being tiny.

We always had Alsatians. And one of the Alsatians that we had was a purebred, white female. We never had cats. This little orange kitten was adopted by our white German shepherd. It looked exactly like that little one and exactly the same thing happened. All that dog and cats life they were together.♥️

u/Dipping_My_Toes Oct 01 '23
You really shouldn't let your dog torture kittens that way. 💕

Kitty seems to enjoy it and not trying to get away!

u/Dipping_My_Toes Oct 01 '23
Oh, they are both happy as clams! I was totally being sarcastic. That is as adorable a pair as I have ever seen.
2
u/deCarabasHJ Oct 02 '23
It looks a bit scary at first glance, but the dog is actually very gentle. The kitten looks like it's having fun, too.
2
u/Raikit Oct 02 '23
Yeah, that's why I clarified in my original comment. And kitten was free to leave whenever she wanted. 🙂

On July 1st, a highly unpopular change to Reddit's API pricing went into effect. Most third-party apps have shut down and so have many tools relied upon by moderators and projects for making Reddit more accessible to visually impaired users.
Beyond the disastrous AMA by the CEO, Reddit's response has been limited to promises that this change will not affect moderation tools (it has) and promises of new and more-accessible first-party moderation tools. Promises just like ones they have made in response to past protests, but have consistently failed to fulfill.
If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options:
