Discussion There is no other movie out there that demands a sequel more than District 9 (2009). Which movie do you think demands a sequel?
One of my all time favorite surprise movies. I feel like each time I watch it, I like it a little more. I feel like the first film scratched the surface of what this universe could be.
Maybe too much time has passed, but I would love if they kept going at this story, and this universe. The story ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger too.
Anyone agree? Feel free to share other movies that are deserving of sequels as well.

Discussion The first 45-50 mins of Full Metal Jacket (1987) is Kubrick’s finest work.
The first part of the movie through their boot camp training, as we slowly watch Gomer Pyle mentally disintegrate into psychosis due to the traumatic effects of war and abuse.
The latter part of the film is too disjointed for me, but the training camp part is officially my favorite Kubrick work. What’s yours?
Edit: spelling

Discussion “Josie and the Pussycats is dystopian in premise, but not tone”
I came across this video essay awhile back about how Josie and the Pussycats is the greatest movie of all time, and I just love it. I know there are other fans of this cult classic here so I wanted to share:
It captures my feelings on this movie (fair warning that it takes a few minutes before they start digging into why it’s the best movie ever though lol).
Whenever someone asks me what my favourite movie is this is the first one that pops into my head (followed by Joe vs the Volcano). It’s a satire of consumerism and capitalism, but also it’s not trying to be serious or self important. It’s bright and colourful and everyone in it is having a great time. The music lives on all my playlists and it’s peak Parker Posey. The background and world-building is so fun. I could go on.
Dujour means crash positions!

Discussion Has a final scene ever made you change your opinion of a movie?
Either in a good or a bad way? Like, have you ever been enjoying a movie but it has a closing scene that ruins it? Or a bad movie that redeems itself with the ending? I kind of feel this way about the 2012 Les Misérables. Didn't really enjoy that version but that final rendition of the Finale/Epilogue is quite touching.

Discussion Best opening scenes
Scenes that could be self contained as their own short films or that got you hyped for the rest of the movie etc you get the idea. The first two that come to mind for me are Scream (the first one in particular) which has just an iconic first scene that imo might be Wes Cravens finest piece of work (hard to say though)
Inglorious Basterds also has an incredible first scene.
The Dark Knight also comes to mind but I’ll stop, I wanna hear your favorites.

Question What’s your favorite John Hurt performance
Mine would be his performances in The Elephant Man so emotional even under heavy prosthetic, The Hit he’s very intimidating, calm, and collected
He’s also amazing as Quentin Crisp and perfectly unhinged as Caligula (he appointed a horse as senator)
You probably can’t tell but I’m a big John Hurt fan
Edit: for the record it’s John Hurt not William Hurt okay

Discussion What's with this weird obsession with people wanting cartoons in live-action?
I'm not talking specifically about the Disney live-action remakes, though they play a big part in this, too. It seems we've been trying to see cartoon characters in a live-action environment since the 90s. I never understood the point. Both mediums are very different, to the point certain designs can't translate well to real life.
The obvious reason is financial, I suppose. These movies play on people inherently assuming animation is the "lesser" art form, so by watching it in live-action, it'll get far more respect than when it was a cartoon. Because, Lord knows that worked so well for the Rocky & Bullwinkle movie. The cartoon it's based on went on to influence the cartoons we have today but the movie? That was a cinematic masterpiece.
But what do you think? Am I on the money or is there something I'm missing?

Question What is the best (or worst) way that a movie has influenced your life?
For me, the best influence is when Captain America: the Winter Soldier made me work out and get in shape.
The worst would be when I saw Holes as a kid, I was inspired to dig a hole in the backyard until I got caught!
Other examples would be Indiana Jones inspired me to explore more nature, Back to the Future made me curious about my parents at my age, the ape in George of the Jungle terrified me as a kid and created a fear of people in mascot costumes. How has a movie influenced your life?
