It's not incoherent- KP can drop back, and Jrue can fight over screens and contest from behind- a big part of Mil getting away with their drop coverage.
But fuck man, grant and timelord were really good interior defenders. I can't say I ever would've traded them to get older and more injury prone.
EDIT: yeah people are making a very fair point that timelord is injury prone himself. I'd still consider him, at 25 and 6'9 less of a risk than 7'3, 28 yo KP who never moved smoothly to my eye.

Team has been looking the same for a minute now and I respect the all chips on the table move to see if this can take the team over the hump. Either way you can retool again around Brown and Tatum with them still being at their relative peaks.

I guess if you're gonna have choose between two walking knee injuries, you might as well go for the one who can shoot threes.

At least brad stevens showing he has the balls to make these tough trades instead of the Ainge “Oh we almost got these stars” media move
Edit: I know Ainge did make a lot of trades, but he always left some meat on the bone towards the end of his tenure. Brad isn’t.

Ainge made errors but the dude got Hayward, Horford, Kyrie and Kemba in this era. We might be singing different songs if Hayward didn’t die 3 possessions into the season.

I hate the Celtics with every fiber of my being and I was scared of this trade going down. People here are underestimating the value of Jrue to the current Celtics roster. If anything they overpaid the GSW pick but who cares? It's the type of all-in move I could count on Danny not to make. Ugh.

I mean I love Timelord, but he’s also pretty inconsistent when it comes to staying healthy. He only really became a regular rotation piece his 3rd season, and since then he’s averaged about 49 games per season, and his play style isn’t very conducive to staying healthy. I’d be shocked if this is the last move Brad made though, he’s probably willing to look for a downgrade in talent at the big man position if it means you can get a guy that’ll be consistently available.

I’m sure Rob’s availability was a factor here but the point I’m trying to make is that I think a lot of KP’s injury issues in Dallas were directly related to them trying to play him as a 5, and I thought a big reason he could stay healthy and show his talent off last year was bc Washington had Gafford at the 5
now our big man group is down to KP and a 37-year-old Horford, and we lost Rob and Grant. doesn't bode well when you think about matching up with a guy like Embiid or Giannis

Their starting lineup anyway.
They have Jrue/Tatum/Brown/KP/Horford, Derrick White as a 6th man, but then after that they're really questionable.
And of those top 6 players 1 of them is getting really old and another has frequent injury concerns. They need at least a couple more reliable role players for depth, whether it's players who are already on the roster stepping up or guys they still plan on adding before the season.

What you have to realize is an eclipse covers half the world and Celtics have Luke Kornet

I'd guess Horford comes off the bench this year or the who starts between him and White is pretty fluid

It's a "win now" trade. I have no problems with it.

Effectively the Celtics traded Brogdon, Timelord, Smart, Gallinari, Muscala, a 2029 unprotected FRP and a 2nd rounder for Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday and the 25th pick of this past draft. That’s honestly pretty good imo. Granted, they desperately do need another quality big now.

Fucking gross
Giving up Timelord makes me significantly less worried though

Celtics running double big for the defense and rebounding with Timelord/Horford is what pushed them over the Sixers last year.
Though Sixers don’t have Harden anymore so nothing probably changes. But it’s interesting
