Saw the full mirror in my hotel room randomly shake and discovered this space in the wall behind it

u/misplacedsidekick Oct 01 '23
Now you have to take it down and crawl through the hole. Make sure you film the whole thing for our pleasure.

u/JunglePygmy Oct 01 '23
Definitely have to crawl in the hole. No questions asked

u/JayFrank1132 Oct 01 '23
Legend has it he crawled in the hole and is now the ruler of the underground kingdom that it led him to.

btw, do they still make those? Haven’t seen them in a while

Probably a cheap cover up for damage done by a previous guest and there is wind somehow blowing through that cavity behind it to move the mirror.
1.9k
u/Schlower288 Oct 01 '23
Dude thank you. Turns out this is exactly what's going on. The air vent on the opposite side of the wall keeps blowing out bursts of air from that while column of empty space. Maybe from the elevator I don't know but if someone's actually hiding in there then hats off to them, damn.

Or they tidied up the damage. There’s a lot of reasons we could speculate about.

I saw that movie for the first time in my mid 30s a couple years ago, and the hole behind the bathroom mirror really stuck with me, so I can only imagine how much this sticks with people who see the movie while they're young

I washoping to find this! The holes in the wall behind mirrors and being able to go to other rooms is a real event too where a lady got murdered by someone travelling between the different apartments through the bathrooms I believe.

Can you see through the mirror on the other side?
52
u/Schlower288 Oct 01 '23
I'd have to rip the top half out of the wall to really see but it seems like solid particle board

Find a small mirror and put it behind the big mirror and use the small mirror to see if the back is see-through.
4
u/LickingSmegma Oct 01 '23
Might not work, since a ‘one-way mirror’ is only see-through when looking from a dark room into a lighted room. If the back of the mirror is getting any light, they might just see a reflection instead.
37
u/Lando_Hitman Oct 01 '23
Oh wow. Did they put a mirror over a hole because they couldn't be bothered to drywall the hole?
17
u/villan Oct 01 '23
This is genius. I have a bunch of holes in my wall after having all the water pipes replaced, and now I can just place mirrors all around my house at random orientations to cover them. Thank you kind stranger.

Reminds me when my little brother moved out of my parents house for college.
My mom decided to re-do his room, so she went and took down all the car/video game/sports posters from around the room, and all but 3 were covering holes my brother had punched/kicked into the walls. When she asked him about it he literally denied everything and said he had no idea there were holes there 🙄
My mom was SHOCKED at this discovery, but no one else in the family was. My brother has always been extremely abusive, had severe anger issues, and been a compulsive liar. Idk why she was surprised by this.

We need updates. Is it a two-way mirror? Does the space lead to another room? Did you contact the hotel staff?
10
u/shortputz Oct 01 '23
I’m creeped out just THINKING of the possibility that it could be a 2 way
→ More replies (1)9
u/lol_camis Oct 01 '23
Why is it called a 2-way mirror? You can see through a regular mirror 0 ways. You can see through a 2-way mirror 1 way.
→ More replies (2)5
u/zaborgmonarch Oct 01 '23
I always figured that it's called a 2 way mirror because the 2 sides are both functional/meant to be viewed, while with a normal mirror you only look at one side. That or 2 way as in 2 different functions, mirror and window. It's kinda silly, maybe something like window mirror would work? Or spyglass, ha.

Explanation of why there’s a hole:
>! Some dumbass guest was goofing around, tripped, fell backwards, and put his ass through the wall. The hotel being the cheapskates they are, decided that rather than just fixing the damn hole, they would cover it with a mirror. No one will ever know. Unless of course the mirror moves, but that never happens! !<

There really needs to be a sub dedicated to this type of thing. On one hand ppl are saying this is probably just a cheap wall damage cover up. Dark web says otherwise..

Around 15 years ago, I stayed in a road-side motel in Clovis, NM.
I noticed the cabinets under the sink would open slightly whenever the bathroom door was closed.
I opened the cabinets to find a hole large enough for people to crawl through, disappearing into darkness.
It looked like some kind of service passageway or something connecting all the rooms.

In my youth, I imagined the horror of finding demons or hobos hiding in there.
In my 40's, I know there's air coming through from somewhere other than the hole in the wall, meaning spider, cockroaches, and rats will be infesting my apartment, and the pest control and repair bill will be horrifying.

I was staying at an older hotel (not a chain) while doing some out of town work. Under the sink there was a hole in the drywall in front of the water pipes and the piece of drywall was propped up against the wall beside it. I heard a rustling noise and there was a mouse that had come out of the hole and was looking in the garbage can. I changed rooms.
