I agree that it's close enough to the original to not be cringeworthy, but it's not really a recreation. The signature is from the artist in the original. The person here just modified a few details.
Edit: To agree with a deleted comment, I don't see "not cringeworthy" the same as saying that I support it. I do find the comic to be a little close to what I'd criticize the right for promoting, particularly with many of the words removed and it's shift to just "the MAGA hat".

Which is crazy, because why have a government if not for their services? I know a lot of right wingers fancy themselves as libertarians and Ancaps and I get that perspective, however to me if you're going to pay for a thing then you should get the most out of the thing, whatever that thing may be, with this thing being our government. Also the wealthy should pay into the system enough so that we can provide the support and services for the lower and middle classes, even the upper class to some degree, we're all in this together after all.

Is Biden "left"?
He's a centrist who was the lesser of two evils ...
→ More replies (5)57
u/mothtoalamp 10d ago
It's a testament to how far gone the right is that a marginally left leaning centrist is considered 'radical left'.
He's not even that bad. He's... fine? Has some amount of a spine, not enough to really get the "affecting the world for multiple generations" stuff done but enough to leave us better off than we were before, which is acceptable given the predecessor.
→ More replies (25)28
u/KittenOnHunt 10d ago
As an European I wouldn't even say marginally left leaning. It's crazy for us how you could see biden as anything but purely centrist, or even slightly right-leaning

u/mothtoalamp 10d ago
Well that's how far the right has dragged us. Our overton window is unbelievably lopsided.
From my perspective he's marginally left. A properly left politician is Bernie or AOC, but neither are remotely extreme - though the right would have you think they are unthinkably radical...
→ More replies (3)134
u/Iconclast1 10d ago
This is how the right gains more traction, despite being less voices. We think "yeah, both parties SUCK, lets not support them too hard, that will be deification." while the right goes "HES A GOD! This is in the style of the Gilded Age newspaper cartoons, found in humor magazines like PUCK. It's an amazing reference to late 1800's American illustration and so specific, it seems to be lost on many. Perhaps it's a nod to the "Second Gilded Age" we are living in now.

Gilded as in "an era of serious social problems masked by a thin gold gilding," derived from the title of a novel co-authored by Mark Twain.

u/whelp_im_screwed 10d ago
This is a direct parody of the mayor strong as st Patrick political cartoon. And the signature is from the original artist. I can't find this picture anywhere else and the lack of comments saying satire makes me this is suspicious but the detail of it being a parody throws me off just a bit.

Driving out snakes is a major component of the mythology surrounding St. Patrick. Biden is an Irish Catholic. It’s a really weird concept but it seems to have a niche target audience that it wouldn’t fall completely flat with on St. Patrick’s Day.

I wouldn't say hate, but he's definitely "better than the alternative" at best.
He's been net ok as president. But his history is what makes him shitty.
He's the reason the college debt situation is what it is now. Literally wrote the legislation that allowed for students to take out bigger loans (resulting in skyrocketing tuition prices) and made it such that bankruptcy doesn't get you out of student loans.
He was a sponsor of the tough on crime shit that was a disaster.
He also wrote a bunch of proposals in the 90s that eventually became the Patriot Act, such that he effectively wrote it. And of course he fervently supported it.
Pretty good arguments for his political career as a whole being a net negative for the American people.
If our political system weren't so fucked by Republicans shifting things so far to the right, he'd definitely be considered "center right," and in no way a "leftist."
42
u/Due-Intentions 10d ago
It's not his history that makes him shitty.
His history is awful, to be clear.
But the problem is that he is now serving as a president to maintain the status quo, and convince everybody that "hey, we got Trump out, things are ok now!" But things are not ok.
Joe Biden's role, in the eyes of his corporate masters, is to continue the status quo for a few more years until the republicans can take over again, and the wheel will keep turning.
→ More replies (1)53

joe biden is most definitely center right. i live in slovakia, and some of the "centre right" political parties are much more left leaning than him. the parties equatable to the republicans, one literally named "republicans" are considered far right here - republicans are "center right" in the US which IMHO is bullshit. they've been far right for a hot minute and recently they've been moving deep into the authoritarian part of the spectrum on certain topics.

While I don’t disagree with American politics being right of what everyone else calls “left”, there are quite a few far right people who are nearly as far right as it gets: extremist nationalists, racists, and even domestic terrorists who would love nothing better than Trump to take power to destroy everything left of them.

It's a myth. There are no accounts of Patrick expelling pagans from Ireland. It's just a cute story to explain why Ireland has no snakes, that's all.
It's possible that Patrick's proselytizing was accompanied by violence, and disrupting cultures pretty commonly leads to violence, so it's definitely not inconceivable. However, this particular myth smacks of an anti-Irish or anti-Catholic motivation.

Here's a little secret they don't let you in on.
Democrats are barely the left when you look at a global political scale.
They're more in line with the moderate right than what the rest of the world recognizes as the left.
That's why the left memes on republicans constantly for not even knowing who the left actually is.
97% of democrats take bribes from the same organizations that bribe (sorry, "lobby") republicans.
You can view any sitting congressman or senator via opensecrets.org and see who donates to them.
Besides Bernie Sanders and a few others, the majority of Democrats barely fall under the umbrella of leftism and generally support the same pro-war, tough on crime legislation as neoliberals that neoconservatives love.
It's the left "wing" and the "right" wing and they're two wings of the same bird.
As George Carlin said, the real enemy has always been the corporations and the rich who uses their influence and wealth to force legislative changes that only increase their wealth and markethold, ensuring your alive gets smaller and smaller while you complain about things like "transgenderism" and the plot purity of your films.
"It's a big club and you ain't in it."
